Chesley Gray Black IV (Chess) has been on staff at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina since 2004. He is currently Director of Campus Services, overseeing the departments of Information Technology, Facilities Management, Printing & Mailing Services and the Bookstore.
Mr. Black received a Master of Science in Instructional Technology degree, a Graduate Certificate in Performance Improvement, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Management Information Systems and a Certificate in Business and Technical Communication from East
Carolina University.
Prior to JWU, Mr. Black was on staff at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte for three years where he was Assistant Director for Technology. Previous to UNC Charlotte, he worked for several years at East
Carolina University in technology, marketing and survey research.
In his spare time, Mr. Black enjoys health/fitness, music, instrumental conducting and serving as Drum Major Instructor of the North Lincoln High School "Band of Knights" in Lincolnton, NC, the East Lincoln High School "Mustang Band" in Denver, NC and the East Carolina University Marching Pirates in Greenville, NC. He is also an active clinician and adjudicator for various programs and competitions across the southeastern United States.
